I create to fulfill the innate humanistic quality within myself, that is, the need to create and make a mark. I love having a vision in my mind and then creating it in the physical world, shaping my thoughts into three-dimensional pieces, and seeing how they interact with people.
My process is all play and problem-solving. What feels good in my hands? Do I want to touch it? Eat it? How can I use it, whether soft, sticky, silky, or slimy? How can I manipulate this material in a way it has never been done before? These questions spark my inner child's curiosity by exploring the definition of a medium. Some of my most common materials include sentimental mementos, oil paints, leather, pool noodles, spray insulation, silicone caulking, and other miscellaneous items in my parents' garage that they will not miss.
Through my studies in Studio Arts and Sociology, I facilitate gentle ways for myself and others to digest uncomfortable topics by using child-like depictions of adult themes in my work. I specifically focus on sexual exploration, love, and loss, inspired by different landscapes and how they relate to the human body and experiences. My work provides me with a sense of autonomy over how my feelings and ideas are perceived, with the hope that when I am long gone, my voice will continue, and my work will continue to spark conversation for others.
