Wind Cube consists of a matrix of thousands of hinged aluminum vanes that reveal the shapes and textures of the passing wind. By making the intricate motion in a small sample of the Earth’s atmosphere visible, the artwork functions as a window, a portal, into the mysterious and beautiful dynamics of the air we, and all living creatures, breathe.

Unlike traditional sculpture, which usually has defined edges, this artwork is porous to the ebb and flow of natural forces. The edges of the artwork dissolve into immediate atmospheric environment, blurring the boundary between art and nature. By creating a responsive field instead of a static object, Wind Cube offers viewers the possibility of gaining visual insights and appreciation of the fragility and complex beauty of the atmosphere in which we are all immersed and which sustains us.
